The BrainGain Home Gym Advent Calendar 2026: 24 Doors, 24 Moves and the Kit Behind Each One

A home gym advent calendar with one move behind each door, from a goblet squat on 1 December to a barbell deadlift on 22 December. Every door names the BrainGain kit it needs and what it costs today, so the calendar works as a December training plan and a Christmas gift list.

Advent calendars have come a long way from a square of chocolate behind a cardboard door. This year there are calendars for gin, cheese, candles and dog treats. Ours has something better behind each door: one move a day from 1 to 24 December, building from a goblet squat with a 9 kg kettlebell to a barbell deadlift in the garage. Every door also names the BrainGain kit that move needs and what it costs today. Use it as a December training plan, as a Christmas gift list, or both.

All kit in this calendar comes from the BrainGain UK range of adjustable dumbbells, adjustable kettlebells, stands and benches, the Olympic range and bundles. Prices are live on braingain.fit as of 28 October 2026. Black Friday falls on 27 November, which gives you a month to get the kit in before door 1. Our Black Friday or Boxing Day guide explains how to judge any offer before then.

Week one: the kettlebell doors (1 to 6 December)

One kettlebell is enough for the first week. The 9 kg runs from 2 to 9 kg and suits beginners. The 18 kg runs from 4 to 18 kg, seven kettlebells in one, and lasts much longer. Both change weight with a turn of the handle. BrainGain's own video shows how.

BrainGain's own video of the 18 kg adjustable kettlebell behind doors 3, 5 and 6.

Door 1: Goblet squat

Kit: 9 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £49.99

Hold the kettlebell by the horns at your chest, sit between your heels, stand up tall. 3 sets of 10. The move that teaches every other squat.

Door 2: Kettlebell deadlift

Kit: 9 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £49.99

Kettlebell between your feet, hips back, flat back, stand up. 3 sets of 10. Set the 9 kg at 6 or 7 kg if you are new to it.

Door 3: Two-hand swing

Kit: 18 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £89.99

Hinge, hike the kettlebell back, snap your hips forward to chest height. 5 sets of 15. The 18 kg version runs from 4 to 18 kg, so it grows as the swing gets stronger.

Door 4: Halo

Kit: 9 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £49.99

Circle the kettlebell around your head, five each way, ribs down. A shoulder warm-up you will keep doing long after December.

Door 5: Goblet reverse lunge

Kit: 18 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £89.99

Kettlebell at your chest, step back, lower the knee, drive up. 3 sets of 8 each leg.

Door 6: Single-arm kettlebell press

Kit: 18 kg Adjustable Kettlebell, £89.99

Clean it to your shoulder, press it overhead, lower slowly. 3 sets of 6 each side. Turn the handle to drop the weight if the last rep slows down.

Week two: dumbbells and a bench (7 to 14 December)

Week two brings in the dumbbells. The 24 kg SmartBells Evo replaces 15 pairs of fixed dumbbells, runs from 2.5 to 24 kg per hand, and won a T3 Recommends award in June 2026. T3 wrote that "one pair replaces an entire rack of weights". From door 11 you need a bench. The Pennywise Pundit compares the 24 kg and 40 kg sets below.

The Pennywise Pundit on the 24 kg and 40 kg SmartBells pairs, the dumbbells behind doors 7 to 18.

Door 7: Dumbbell floor press

Kit: 24 kg SmartBells Evo, £159.99

Lie on the floor, press both dumbbells up, let the elbows touch down between reps. 3 sets of 10. The 24 kg Evo changes weight with a one-second twist of the handle.

Door 8: One-arm dumbbell row

Kit: 24 kg SmartBells Evo, £159.99

Hand on a chair, pull the dumbbell to your hip, pause, lower. 3 sets of 10 each side.

Door 9: Romanian deadlift

Kit: 24 kg SmartBells Evo, £159.99

Dumbbells at your thighs, push the hips back until you feel the hamstrings, stand up. 3 sets of 10.

Door 10: Lateral raise

Kit: 24 kg SmartBells Evo, £159.99

Raise the dumbbells to shoulder height with a slight bend in the elbows. 3 sets of 12. Small muscles need small steps, and the Evo's 15 settings give you them.

Door 11: Incline dumbbell press

Kit: Core Bench, £99.99 plus your dumbbells

Set the Core Bench to an incline and press. 3 sets of 10. It has seven backrest positions from flat to incline and folds to 87 x 29 x 50 cm when you are done.

Door 12: Chest-supported row

Kit: Core Bench, £99.99 plus your dumbbells

Lie face down on the incline and row both dumbbells. No lower-back strain, all upper-back work. 3 sets of 12.

Door 13: Bulgarian split squat

Kit: Core Bench, £99.99 plus your dumbbells

Rear foot on the bench, dumbbells at your sides, lower straight down. 3 sets of 8 each leg. The hardest door so far.

Door 14: Seated shoulder press

Kit: SmartBells Dumbbells Stand, £99.99

Bench upright, dumbbells pressed overhead. The stand brings the dumbbells to waist height, so you pick them up without bending to the floor. It builds in about 10 minutes and fits the 24 kg and 40 kg SmartBells.

A chocolate is gone in a second. A goblet squat on 1 December is still paying off in March.

Week three: heavier dumbbells (15 to 18 December)

If the 24 kg set already feels light on rows and lunges, these four doors go to 40 kg per hand. The Original turns a dial on the end of the dumbbell. The Evo uses a push-down-and-twist handle, which is faster for supersets and drop sets. Both have 17 settings from 5 to 40 kg. Our guide to the 40 kg round adjustable dumbbells covers the difference.

Door 15: Press and row superset

Kit: 40 kg SmartBells Original, £279.99

Floor press, then straight into rows, no rest. 4 rounds of 8 and 8. The 40 kg Original covers 5 to 40 kg in 17 settings with a turn of the dial.

Door 16: Farmer's carry

Kit: 40 kg SmartBells Original, £279.99

Heavy dumbbell in each hand, walk the length of the garage and back. 4 trips. Grip, core and shoulders in one move.

Door 17: Drop-set curl

Kit: 40 kg SmartBells Evo, £349.99

Curl to near failure, drop the weight, go again, twice. The 40 kg Evo's push-down-and-twist handle makes the drop fast enough to matter.

Door 18: Heavy dumbbell row

Kit: 40 kg SmartBells Evo, £349.99

Same row as door 8, now with up to 40 kg per hand. 4 sets of 8 each side.

Week four: the barbell and the big box (19 to 24 December)

The last week moves into the garage. A squat rack, a 7 ft bar, collars and bumper plates make a barbell setup that handles the big lifts. Our garage gym guide covers space and flooring, and dumbbells vs barbells explains why you want both.

Door 19: Back squat

Kit: Squat Rack, £179.99 and 20 kg Olympic Bar, £129.99

Bar on your upper back from the rack's J-hooks, squat, re-rack. 5 sets of 5. The rack is 60 x 60 mm steel with 16 height levels and optional spotters, built for a 7 ft bar.

Door 20: Bench press

Kit: Squat Rack, £179.99, 20 kg Olympic Bar, £129.99 and the Core Bench, £99.99

Set the spotters just below chest height, then press. 5 sets of 5. The Core Bench has a 380 kg load capacity and a 120 kg maximum user weight.

Door 21: Overhead press

Kit: 20 kg Olympic Bar, £129.99 and Lock Jaw Collars, £9.99

Standing barbell press from the rack. Collars keep the plates still on every rep. 5 sets of 5.

Door 22: Deadlift

Kit: bumper plates: 12-sided from £49.95, coloured £89.99, black from £95

Bar on the floor, plates on, pull. 3 sets of 5. Rubber bumper plates protect the garage floor and the bar.

Door 23: Full-body circuit

Kit: SmartBells Pro Gym Bundle, £619.99

Dumbbell press on the bench, kettlebell swings, dumbbell rows, goblet squats. 4 rounds. The bundle includes 40 kg adjustable dumbbells, an 18 kg kettlebell, the stand and the Adjustable Bench 2.0.

Door 24: Christmas Eve test

Kit: everything behind doors 1 to 23

Pick your three favourite moves from the calendar and test them: one heavy set of 5 each. Write the numbers down. Repeat them on New Year's Eve and see what a month of doors did.

How to use this calendar

Open one door a day and add the move to whatever you did the day before. By door 24 you have a full-body plan. If you are new to training, repeat the first two weeks in January instead of moving on. If you already lift, start at door 7 and run the calendar twice. Our survey of 73 verified BrainGain customers in 2026 found that most train at least three times a week, months after buying. A plan like this is how that habit starts.

The verdict

Twenty-four doors, twenty-four moves, and the kit behind each one. If you only buy one thing from this calendar, buy the 24 kg SmartBells Evo at £159.99: it opens more doors than anything else in the range. Add the Core Bench and the stand for the full dumbbell gym, or go straight to the SmartBells Pro Gym Bundle and open almost every door at once.
